History of the Internet

The internet is what connects computers around the world and is something that people use to get information and communicate with each other. As long as someone has a connection to the internet they can gain all of the information and communication methods that are available through the internet. There wasn't a single inventor of the internet because it has evolved over time but it got started in the 1960s by an MIT guy J.C.R. Licklider. The internet was first invented for the military. There was an increasing need for computers and for the military to be able to communicate with each other. It was supposed to be something in which if satellites went down that the military would still be able to communicate. It was also able to share data among scientists. It is used today for anything and everything. People use it to communicate to gather information and post things about their lives and share their experiences to people. Anyone and everyone now has access to the internet and all it has to offer.

The World Wide Web is an information system within the internet that is used as an information system for documents and other web resources. It is a group of pages that can be accessed on the internet by the public. It was created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. It was created because he was interested in technology and created a computer by himself for fun. The purpose was to make gaining information easier and more accessible to the public. Before you would have to log into the internet and was only able to access a certain amount of information but he wanted to make something where information was available to people without having to log into anything. It was to make sharing information a lot easier. It is used today in the same sense in that people are able to share and make their information public and available for anyone to find the information that they are looking for.

The internet and the World Wide Web are not the same thing. The internet is the big picture and the big invention where as the World Wide Web is something that can be accessed through the internet. There are other components to the internet other than the World Wide Web, therefore the World Wide Web is a part of the internet but they aren't the same thing.

The first website was created in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the same person that founded the World Wide Web. The website is still up however I'm not positive if it is the same url that was used for the first website but you are able to see what the first website looked like when it was launched. The url is https://line-mode.cern.ch/www/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
